I spent four nights at the Sheraton Dubrovnik Riviera in late September and liked a lot of things about it.
Located along the Adriatic coast in Srebreno Bay, the property is just 6 km from the beautiful fortified town of Dubrovnik, famous for its dramatic promontory setting and medieval city wall. Dubrovnik itself is often overrun by tourists, so I elected to stay a little outside the city at the Sheraton, which is located in the quiet beach town of Srebreno.
First Impressions
A notable visual feature of the hotel is its white exterior and the unusual curvatures of its Y-shaped main building. It is a pretty sexy building! The lobby and other public areas of the hotel are stylish, and the guest services staff are all sharply dressed. I arrived off-season, so it wasn’t crowded in the hotel.
Check-In
Check-in was a smooth process. I was welcomed as Gold Marriott Bonvoy member and given an upgrade to a room with a view of the pool and Srebreno Bay. The only snafu was a minor one: My “personalized” letter to welcome me hilariously misgendered me as “Ms. Kwee.” Not long after my arrival in the room, a staffer brought up a dessert and sweets for me, which was a nice touch of hospitality.
The Room
The deluxe room that I was upgraded to looked stylish and immaculate. It was appointed with a king bed and had a balcony from which to take in the lovely view. There were lots of thoughtful design features such as the recessed lighting above the bed making it convenient to read and work in bed, and built-in charging ports on both sides of the bed.
The bathroom had a separate bathtub and enclosed rain shower. Consistent with the trend away from wasteful single-use toiletries, the Gilchrist and Soames products came in large dispenser bottles. The exception was the sample-sized lotion.
Dining
I didn’t dine at the property other than breakfast, which was a full buffet that included an omelette station, cereal bar, hot selections and cold cuts, a salad bar, and juices. Coffee was served at the table by highly efficient waitstaff. Breakfast is served at Restaurant Leut, which serves local and international food from noon through 11 pm. The other notable restaurant on the property is Lungomare Restaurant, a beachfront restaurant specializing in Mediterranean cuisine.
Hotel Grounds and Beach
The Sheraton is in a truly gorgeous location right on the bay with a rugged mountainous backdrop. The courtyard of the hotel is centred on the pool, which saw few users throughout my stay due to the chilly weather. Past the pool is the pristine pebbled beach fringed by a boardwalk. This being off-season, the beach was pretty quiet. Even the water taxis to Dubrovnik, which in the peak summer season can be caught from the nearby pier, were not operating regularly. Access to Dubrovnik isn’t a problem, however, with the convenience of Uber and taxis that ply the 6 km distance between the hotel and Dubrovnik town centre via a coastal road.
Final Thoughts
I liked a lot of things about this hotel – my room, the attentive and professional staff, the quality of the breakfast buffet, and most of all its quiet and beautiful setting, which more than made up for the small inconvenience of having to Uber into town.
